Who are we?
We are a local group of people who gather regularly to provide support, information and friendship to those who are caring for, or living with, neurodegenerative diseases such as Dementia and Alzheimer's and we would love to meet you! Each meeting is different but we usually have an informative talk, time for questions and conversation, and maybe a fun game thrown in for a good laugh. Add to that tea, coffee and baked goodies - who doesn't appreciate a nice dose of sweetness with new and old friends!
We have many goals for our group of friends which include:
- To provide emotional support for those who are going through difficult times.
- To draw strength from other members experiences.
- To share information around care and day to day ideas for navigating your new normal.
- To build a community network of people with similar problems who are able to come alongside each other.
- To empower members with knowledge about dementia to help them better cope with challenging situations.
- To reduce isolation whilst encouraging acceptance and understanding within our local Gympie community.
- To care for the Carers. To laugh, cry, chat, learn and enjoy precious moments together!
At the moment we meet once a month on the 2nd Tuesday of each month, however we do aim to make our gatherings more frequent. We are also intending to add in social outings, maybe a book club and movie trips.
Although we are not experts, we hope to provide a space in which you can feel safe and relaxed.
Who is welcome? Carers, and patients from local facilities, private residents and their support workers or family members, those who are newly diagnosed and learning how to work through this... you are all welcome to join us in these safe and discreet meetings.
Attendees are asked to allow 10 minutes ahead of time to assemble for the necessary covid checks prior to the meeting.
Please contact us for details - we would love to meet you! No one should have to go through these difficult changes alone :)
